Friday night, G12P got a sneak preview of the Jaycees Haunted House in East Liverpool!  All we can say is Prepare to be Scared!  It is four floors of horror that is very easy to get lost in!  Panic easily takes hold as you try to get way from the monsters and ghouls lurking within these walls!

Dan, a long time member of Jaycees and one of three masterminds for this years horror fest, filled us in on the creepy happening that have been going on behind the scenes as well.  It is possible that the old Elks Lodge might be haunted.
The Elks building became the Elks in 1935.  It has been used for many different things over the years and has had it's secrets as well.  Several rooms leave those working inside uneasy. Some even make them feel like they are being watched.  No one thinks the permanent residents inside are necessarily evil, but warn everyone to "follow the arrows and stay on the path" through the house.
The rules are the same as always for your safety and that of the monsters dwelling within.

Here you see Dan and Brian, two of the masterminds for the 2012 Jaycees Haunted House. All the proceeds for Jaycees Haunted House fund the many community minded events that Jaycees handles each year.  This includes the East Liverpool Christmas Parade, Christmas Caroling at the area nursing homes, Special Olympics, and the Pottery Festival, to name only a few of the worthy community services Jaycees does every year.
They are having a special sneak preview on Oct 1 starting at 7pm!  If you think your are brave enough, please plan to attend this chilling event.  It is for a great cause!  Of course, we can not guarantee you will survive your adventure.  We did, but we're ghost hunter. ;)

Our New Trail Camera In Our Hunt For BIGFOOt

This past weekend, we went on an incredible journey into the wilderness on our first over-night Bigfoot Adventure.  We got to use our new trail camera, which we bought with the money we made at Johnny Appleseed Festival on our Face Painting Booth.
The pictures are excellent but we have a lot to learn about it's use.  There was a series of 5 pictures taken, for example, that has nothing in it.  The only thing that changes is the fog in the pictures.

Interestingly, we were near Lock 53 and the theory suggested is.....ghosts. Hmmm.  Very possible.  Of course, it could also have just been the fog.  But where is the fun in that? ;)

Here you see Amber, our resident Bigfoot expert, with her new toy.  We are excited to use this in the future and we are eager to share our results with you!  Any ideas or suggestions, please let us know at

Looking for Bigfoot, We Found Lock 53

Saturday was our first BIG Bigfoot hunt.  We backpacked into the Beaver Creek wilderness for an over night adventure!  We had no idea what we were getting into however.  Our packs weighed about 60 lbs each for one thing.  We carried food, water, sleeping bags, and a tent for each person.  Plus our equipment.

Did we find any sign of Bigfoot?  No.  Bummer.  But, we did find Lock # 53.  What an awesome lock! Stairs (reminds me of Vondergreens Lock)  on both sides, in about the middle of the lock really set it off.  Most of this lock is in great shape.
Jon actually found it while looking for a good place for us to camp.  Good job Jon!!!
We initially explored at night because I couldn't wait till morning.  It is truly one of the most beautiful locks left in the lock system.

Of course, during the day was even better!  It certainly made not finding Bigfoot a little better!  And of course, we did some ghost hunting around it.
I don't know when we will get back to this beautiful lock, but I can not wait until we do!

I was also pleasantly surprised to discover the remains of a dam in the water.  Looking at the map, it is Dam #18.  I look forward to checking it our a little better also!

Investigating OVCT for Oct 20 Event

We will be investigating OVCT for a special lecture we are giving on October 20.  This all came about by accident actually. In June, OVCT had a yard sale and we participated, showing our stories and raffling off one of the shirts we had signed so graciously by Kris Williams and Amy Bruni.  Kobi Ream was the winner of that shirt, by the way!
Working on our podcasts, a few crew members (Jack, Will, and myself) went inside building 2 and practiced doing a podcast.  When we listened back to it, we were shocked at what we were hearing.  The following video contains some of the EVP we captured.
We are doing a real investigation of the school to see what we can find.  The results of the investigation will be shared on October 20, 2012 during a lecture about Calcutta history.  A tour of Old Calcutta will follow the lecture.  The other shirt we had signed by Kris and Amy will be raffled off during this event.  Tickets for the shirt are on sale now.  They are $2 each or 3 for $5.  If you are interested please call 330-385-1070
Or email me at
And please let me know what you think about the EVP on the video!

Where did they put the old house at Gretchen's Lock?

Every time I do the tour down at Gretchen's Lock, I mention that the old house was pushed into the old well that sat beside it.  This is a picture of what the well looked like.  A very large rock sat over top the opening, but you coiuld stick your camera in this little hole and take a picture, which I did.

A Night Time Investigation at "The Devil's Chair" in Lisbon

One of the more fun things we get to do is investigate Legends.  Now the definition of a legend states:
a non historical or unverifiable story handed down by tradition from earlier times and popularly accepted as historical.
I post this because that is what the Devil's Chair is at this point.  Just a legend.
It would seem that back in the 1960's there was a Satanic Cult that committed suicide by jumping off the cliffs that surround the Devil's Chair in the old Lisbon Stone quarry.  How true that is is yet to be seen.  I haven't been able to find any verification of it as yet.
It was very creepy standing in the darkness, surrounded by the stone cliffs that make up the Stone Quarry.  But it didn't stop with the feel of the place.

Amber has a gift which she uses on occasion.  As we stood in the cold darkness she saw things moving all around us.  She said they were watching us something like a play.  And she said they were not from anything human.  This, of course, she shared as we all stood there.  The fact that we wanted to leave after that is an understatement.  Yet we stayed and looked around for a while.

In true Jack-fashion, he sits on the chair and invites any spirits in the area to sit with him.

We are still going over the info we obtained as we investigated the area.  It is haunted.  We just are not sure by what.....

Haunted Stairs in East Liverpool?

Yet another ghostly tale has surfaced about the East Liverpool Area.  This seemingly abandoned Staircase is rumored to have a ghost haunting them.  IF YOU ARE AFRAID OF HEIGHTS, DO NOT GO ON THESE STAIRS.  THERE ARE FEW GUARD RAILS AND IT IS DANGEROUSLY STEEP.
That said, the stairs might seem abandoned, but they are not.  We did an investigation here Saturday, Sept 8, and found it very busy.  We asked many people if they had any experiences on the stairs.  No one had heard of the tale.
According to the story, if you ascend the stairs to the first landing and just stand there a few moments, you will be able to hear a woman whispering desperately in your ear.  We did not have that happen to us, but we did get some good EVP.
We would like to do some more work in this area, perhaps on a night that is far less busy.

If you have heard any haunting tales about this stair case (which sits across from Giant Eagle in East Liverpool), please let us know.

The Devils Chair-Lisbon Stone Quarry

One of the Legends we have found around the Lisbon area concerns the old Lisbon Stone Quarry along the GreenWay Bike Trail.  The story goes that in the 1960's (nothing more specific on the date) there was a Satanic Cult that decided to commit suicide by jumping off of the cliffs found in the stone quarry.  Now the area is haunted by their ghosts.  The haunting seems to concentrate around what many call "The Devil's Chair".  Upon entering the stone quarry, go to your right and you will find it down in a sort of hollowed out area of stone.  It looks like a thrown or chair of sorts.  There is also a lot of graffiti around it.

If you have heard any stories about this area or the Devil's Chair, please email me at !

Mulberry Street-East End-Then and Now

I travel to East End a lot with my job, so I get to see a lot of it.  I have hit roads seldom used by anyone, and these roads sometimes hold secrets from our historic past!
One of the cool things I noticed was this picture I found in a book in the library. (Name of  the Book is coming.  Sorry, I forgot to write it down :()
This is Mulberry Street in East Liverpool in about the year 1900.  It describes where the pic was taken in the caption, so I hope I chose the right spot, as I tried to guess which place they stood.  ALL THE BUILDINGS ARE DIFFERENT NOW, SO IT IS HARD TO TELL FOR SURE.
Today, the Bar Legends, and the restaurant Casa De Emanuel, can be found on Mulberry Street.  The Telephone poles on the left of the pic look similar to those found there today also.  For the most part, all the buildings are gone and new ones built in their place.  Lots of changes for this area over the last 100 years.  East Liverpool was once a huge city, but today it is a ghost of its former self.  And with there being so much history in this fading old town, I have to wonder just how many houses and buildings are haunted....

The Mystery Stone At Gretchen's Lock Is.....

We have a video on YouTube- Mystery Stone at Gretchen's Lock - about a stone that is down at Beaver Creek State Park- Gretchen's Lock Area.  The stone can be found behind the hitching post beside the restroom.
It was once beside the old house, which was torn down in April of 2007.  I have speculated for years as to what it might be.  I finally decided to put the video up in an effort to see if anyone knew what it was.  To my surprise and delight my cousin, Billi Jo, saw the video and also attended one of our tours down there so she could see it for herself, and then she started doing her own research.  She was very successful in finding out what the stone is. Here is a web site that explains what this stone  was used for:

If you compare the pictures on the site, you may well agree with me about it.  As far as I am concerned, the mystery stone at Gretchen's Lock is a Lye Stone.  Let me know what you think!
