It was fought on Dec 15-16, 1864. There were 55,000 soldiers for the North and 30,000 for the South. This became a Union victory. Losses for the North were relatively small at 387 killed, while the South lost over 1500, and more than 4000 were missing or captured. It was one of the largest victories achieved by the Union Army.
