Ghosts From Columbiana County Past

Our first Bigfoot adventure was a huge success for us, even though we didn't find Bigfoot.  While our goal in these events is to increase our skills in the in this area, the places we are going are so full of history, when the Big Guy didn't make an appearance, I went looking for what once was!

One of the places I have been looking for in this area is a small settlement called Island Run.  I don't know much about it, other than it was compared to Hell's Half Acre.  I don't know if this is the place, but finding this old foundation was exciting!

Later that day, we found this sweet....well, I am not sure what it is.  I took a lot of pics and hope to go back to get more this summer.  It turned out to be a tunnel!

This is Dennis, Jon, and Amber, exploring the tunnel we found today!  I am not sure what it was used for, but we are wondering if it was something from the Underground Railroad days!  That would be so awesome!

We left on our adventure Saturday afternoon.  This was our second adventure to this area and we are excited to find more of the area secrets!
We walk, in full packs, along Beaver Creek, to the Ohio-PA line and that is where we camp.
This is Lock 53, a lock we extensively checked out last year. Still there. Still beautiful.
Lock 54.  I actually came here two years ago, from the other side of the creek, following the old P.L. and W train tracks.  I crossed the creek (that was an adventure in itself) and took several pics.  Today, we camped at the mouth of it and I got to explore it from front to back!  It also seems to be haunted by the ghost of a girl, though we don't know much more about her than that.
And purely by accident I found the Culvert for Island Run. I have been looking for this for two years.  I was following old 4 wheeler paths and BOOM!  There is was.  It has the date of 1933 on the top.  Around it somewhere is Island Run.  I will be back here to search more. :)
